Our Mission Statement |
Guided by the Spirit of God, the Roman Catholic parish family of Sacred Heart of Jesus celebrates a living faith in Jesus Christ. As a people of God we are committed to worship in the Eucharist, to prayer and to an awareness of the needs of local and global communities as the gospel message instructs us. We direct our efforts to promote excellence in the Catholic tradition of education at all levels. We are diligent and responsible in maintaining sound financial and physical resources to meet current and future obligations. We strive to see the face of Jesus Christ in every person and to utilize the diversity of gifts present in our parish through collaborative ministries and apostolates |

From the pulpit, a message from Fr. Richard
|

Version:2008-04-08 16:46:55
|
On Sunday afternoon (04/06/08) our parish was blessed with the presence of Bishop Robert J. McManus, who celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation for 44 candidates. Our parish church was nearly filled to capacity. How gratifying is was to witness our young Catholic adults participate in the Eucharist in ministerial roles of readers and cantors. Bishop McManus exhorted them to live as faith-filled mature Catholic Christians in a world that is fraught with violence, saturated with greed, self-absorbed with materialism and relativism and unfocused on its primary mission of knowing, loving and serving God in order to merit the fullness of God's Kingdom, our eternal reward.
Hearing these (Bishop's) words at the Sunday liturgy allowed me to reflect more deeply on the words of the Gospel from St. Luke, the journey to Emmaus. Two disciples were conversing and debating about the events that had occured since Jesus' death. The impact was great on them but their enthusiasm of what could have been seemed wasted and lost. "We had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel." I wonder if our newly confirmed feel the same. Is it embarrassing to be a Catholic today? Do we appreciate the giftedness of everyone in the Church? Are we willing to embark on a similar journey with others to converse, discuss and debate the issues that confront us as a Church and a society, respecting the diversity of opinions and treasuring the holiness and wholeness of each other? In the midst of overwhelming obstacles Jesus Christ walks among us and explains to us lovingly the gracious signs of God's presence in us in a fragmented, yet still redeemed world. The story reaches its apex when the disciples utter the inspired phrase, "Stay with us." The words became my prayer that day for all at the liturgy of Confirmation. There will be hope for our weary Church and world if we open our lives to the Spirit of Christ by following Christ's example of patience, love and respect for one another and maintaining a spirit of fidelity to God and the Church.
Please pray for our newly confirmed and walk with them on this earthly journey.
God bless you!

Milford Catholic Elementary School and Little Angels Acedamy, Education Ministries |
 |
Catholic education has been an integral part of the town of Milford for over 125 years. St. Mary’s Grammar School and Sacred Heart Elementary School merged in 1975 and became Milford Catholic Elementary School. Both parishes continue to support the school. In 1990 Little Angels Academy was opened to offer a strong, faith-filled education to 3 and 4 year old children.
 |
Milford Catholic Elementary School offers a challenging academic program rooted in Catholic values. Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies/History, and Religion are part of the core curriculum. Music, Art, Health, and Physical Education are taught weekly by specialty instructors. |
Our goal is to educate students in a loving, caring and supportive environment where God’s love is prevalent. Class sizes are small and discipline is consistent, loving and Christian. Students are challenged to make good choices and to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. |
Prayer is an integral part of the development of each school member. We begin each school day with prayer and end with a blessing. Faculty, staff, students and families come together to celebrate Mass on First Fridays, Holy Days of Obligation, and at other times throughout the year. |
We invite all members of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish to visit our school and to consider a Milford Catholic education for their children. Please call (508) 473-7303 or visit www.milfordcatholic.org for more information. |
